oyce Elaine Stump, 86, of Selma, IN passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN surrounded by her family.
Joyce was born on September 15, 1937 to Lawrence and Naomi Meeks at Ball Memorial Hospital. After Joyce graduated from Selma High School in 1955, she earned her associates degree in business management from Ball State University. She then worked as a secretary for a medical supply company in Fort Wayne, IN, where she met her first husband, Gerald Bough. They were married on April 3, 1971.
Joyce, along with Gerald, was one of 3 founding members of Boos-Driers Twelve Step House in Elkhart, IN. She did the accounting for Boos-Driers and eventually met her second husband, Dean, there. After marrying Dean on July 8, 1978, they moved with their two daughters to Morley, Michigan for a short time. Dean and Joyce were united in their desire to take care of family members in need and moved their family two different times to take care of Dean’s father in Goshen, IN, and then Joyce’s father and mother in Selma, IN.
Joyce loved her friends, family members, and community in Selma, IN. She enjoyed her almost yearly reunions with her high school classmates from Selma High School. She was a member of Modern Farmwives Home Economics Club, where she held many offices. She was a member of the Selma Women’s Club, where she also held office. She was a member of the Selma United Methodist Church. She was a supportive wife and loving mother. She had a humble and independent spirit and taught her daughters through example how to treat others with kindness.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Naomi (Chapman) Meeks, by her first husband Gerald Bough, and by her second husband, Dean Stump. She is survived by her daughters Elaine Bough, Aimee (Bough) Rhea (husband David), and her sister Susan (Meeks) Turner of Fresno, CA.
A service to celebrate Joyce's life will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2024 at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, Indiana. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery of Maxville, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 12:00 p.m. to service time, at the funeral home.
