Leo Schwieterman Obituary

Leo Joseph Schwieterman, a generous and humble soul, passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 83. Born in Portland, Indiana, on June 12, 1940, Leo moved to Union City, Ohio, in 1978, where he made his home and touched countless lives with his reliable presence and loving nature.

A man of labor, Leo worked diligently at the A & K Factory until his retirement at age 62, demonstrating a commitment to hard work and dedication that was a testament to his character. Leo had a profound love for nature and found solace in the woods, often spending his free time cutting wood. His passion for sports was evident in his high school days, where he set several basketball records. Even during his service in the Army, he remained active, playing basketball and volleyball. Leo's life was a testament to the Gospel verse, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). He served in many ministries at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a proud member of the American Legion Post #158, serving his community and church with humility and grace.

Leo's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Tim) Clingenpeel; brothers, Bernard (Hilda) Schwieterman, Walter (Frieda) Schwieterman, and Henry (Joyce); sister-in-law, Joyce; son-in-law, Robyn Bowen; brother-in-law, Tom Dahulhas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen Schwieterman; daughters, Christine Lykins and Leanne Bowen; and sisters, Kathleen Kramer and Mary Dahulhas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1:00pm EST at St. Mary's Catholic Church 425 West Hickory St., Union City, Indiana, 47390. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. There are no visitation hours. Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Fraze Brooks Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
