Peggy A. Curts, affectionately known as "Mammy," was a beacon of love and laughter to all who knew her. Born on August 16, 1932, in Muncie, Indiana, Peggy's life was a testament to her compassion, humor, and unwavering support of those she loved. She lived most of her life in Dunkirk, Indiana, where her radiant spirit touched many lives. A quote by Maya Angelou aptly describes Peggy: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
Peggy was a fiercely loving woman who treasured her family above all else. She was a graduate of Muncie Central High School in 1950 and worked diligently for 16 years at Pak-A-Sak and 13 years at Indiana Glass Credit Office. After retiring in 2012, Peggy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as cooking her family's favorite meals, trying her luck at the casino, and playing bingo. Her fun-loving nature was as infectious as her laughter, making her an absolute joy to be around. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." This sentiment rings exceptionally true for anyone who had the privilege of knowing Peggy.
Peggy is lovingly remembered by her children, Gary (Mary) Curts, Brenda Williams, and Christina (Allen) Rouch; her brothers, Rex (Rose) Higdon and Danny Higdon; her sisters, Rita Landreth and Nancy Falls; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Thelma Higdon; her husband, Robert Curts; her daughter, Janet Cross; her brother, James Higdon; and her sister, Ruth Falls.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at the Wilson-Shook Funeral Homes and Cremation Center (Dunkirk Memorial Chapel), 317 North Main Street, Dunkirk, Indiana, 47336. A celebration of Peggy's life will follow on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the same location. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muncie Central Alumni Association, 801 N.
