Betty Chalfant Obituary

Betty E. Chalfant, 89, of rural Winchester, IN passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 17, 2021 at her home. She was born on April 1, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (McCoy) Sexton. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton.
Betty married Joe Chalfant in 1954 and was a devoted farmwife for many years. She was a member of Bear Creek Friends Church where she was involved in various committees over the years, including Women’s Ministries. Betty was a member of Friendly Rural Couples. She served as a past board member of the local Farm Bureau and had served on the Franklin Township Advisory Board for several years. She loved to read and check in on the family farm operation. Betty blessed many family members and friends with her delicious, homemade pies.  She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Deborah J. Acree (husband, Steve) of Ridgeville, IN and Gregory A. Chalfant (wife, Lisa) of Winchester, IN; a daughter-in-law, Diane Chalfant of Hartford City, IN; six grandchildren, Dana Hartzell (husband, Scott), Jason Enghaus, Christopher Chalfant (wife, Abbey), Joel Chalfant (fiance’, Nicole), Stephanie Chalfant (fiance’, Simon), and Deidre Conner (husband, Zacc); and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Catherine (Kit) Orr; her husband, Joseph A. Chalfant; and a son, Douglas E. Chalfant.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the Bear Creek Friends Church, 4038 W 500 N, Winchester, IN 47394 with Pastor Zachary Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery of Farmland, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN.
