Obituary

Daniel Joseph Farmer Sr., 70, of Richmond, IN, unexpectedly passed away at St. Vincent Randolph hospital in Winchester, IN on Friday, January 28, 2022.  He was born in Winchester, IN on February 7, 1951 to Gordon and Cleo Belle (Moore) Farmer.

Danny graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, IN, later earning his degree in criminal justice from IU East, Richmond.  In 1980, Pastor Danny made his commitment to faith, and dedicated his life to serving the Lord in many ways.  He preached the word of God to everyone that crossed his path.  He loved sports and through the years had coached/umpired/refereed many teams including basketball, baseball, softball, and track.  Danny enjoyed playing horseshoes and helping out at the Richmond Senior Center in his leisure time, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grand children.  The past few years, with his large frame and full white beard, Danny was thrilled to be chosen to play Santa Claus in many different locations, traveling as far as Wisconsin to fill the role.

He leaves to cherish in his memory Charlotte Ann (Burchfield) Farmer, to whom he was married for 44 years; two sons, Phil Ross (wife Kristi) of Modoc, IN and Danny Farmer Jr. of Richmond, IN; two daughters, Ursula Ross (husband Jeff) of Richmond, IN and Marsha Farmer of Madisonville, TN; a brother, Tom Farmer of Lynn, IN; a sister Sharon Smith of Richmond, IN; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Ron, Gary, and a sister, Shirley Combs.

A service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thomas Memorial Chapel of Lynn, IN.  Cremation to follow.  Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 1:00 pm, until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Winchester Area Churches Community Food Pantry,

481 SE Greenville Ave., Winchester, IN 47394.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.wilsonshookfh.com.
