Obituary

Don Edward Dennis passed away on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023, in Avon Park, Florida at the age of 86. He was the son of Newton Edward and Fern Atlanta (Barlow) Dennis. Don was born on May 7th, 1937, in Parker City, Indiana.

Don retired in 1999 from Asplundh Tree Expert Company as a Manager/Vice President. He was a resident of Highlands County Florida since 2005, having come from Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was of Methodist faith.

Don proudly served his country in the US Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the VFW, a proud member of the blue lodge and Scottish Rite and obtained the rank of 33rd Degree. His hobbies included golf, woodworking and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and hockey. The Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lightning were among his favorites. He is survived by his loving sons, Scott Dennis (Sandra) of Ripley, TN; Kipp Dennis (Stacy) of Belize; and sister Joan Hyatt (Don) of Parker City, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren Lee Schultz of Washington; Brooke Comer (Devon) of Washington: Matthew Dennis (Charlotte) of Tennessee; Alyssa Sparks (Cory) of Tennessee and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Carolyn, who passed away in 2018.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 am on August 12 at Union Cemetery,  Parker City, Indiana. Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
