Donald Blanchard Obituary

Donald D. Blanchard, 81, of Dunkirk, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Sunday October 16, 2022. He was born in Dunkirk, the second of four children to Walter & Hazel Blanchard on March 19th 1941. Don proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt Germany.

Don loved his small town life and was happy to return to all that rural America had to offer.

He was a mold maker at Kerr Glass for years before he started up his own excavating business. Eventually he took his skills to Manor Bros.Concrete where he retired in 2011. Don was a hard worker, honest, dependable, fair and trustworthy. He shared these attributes with everyone he knew and admired.

A lifelong member of the NRA and an accomplished outdoorsman, Don loved to hunt, fish, trapshoot, golf and he was an excellent archer. He eventually took an interest in building and flying model airplanes. After enough crashes, he concluded the planes were to hang in the house to keep them in one piece!

Don truly lived life to the fullest through the simple pleasures of being alive. He was at his best surrounded by those who knew him well. A great day for Don was an afternoon playing Rummy with his favorite opponent Lesa, his wife of fifteen years, sharing a cold beer, Dilly-Dilly, watching the sun set and a few good jokes. Throw in some great times with the grandkids and a Colts game, and all was good for Don. Everything he wanted in life, he found in his hometown.

Don is survived by his loving devoted wife Lesa, his children, Pamela, Jennifer (Phil), Monique (Shane), Jason (Brooke), Anthony (Kristy) & Daryl (Katie). Sixteen grandchildren “Bop! Gotcha last!”, and two great grandchildren. His best sister Dixie, four nephews, and Cherokee, his four legged girl, whom Don spoiled terribly, will miss his presence and treat assortments too!

Welcoming Don into eternity were his parents, two brothers David & Daniel, The mother of his children Tina Blanchard, and his grandson Matthew.

Funeral Services will be held at the Dunkirk Memorial Chapel, N. Main St. Dunkirk, Indiana on Friday October 21st at 2pm. Calling hours start at 1pm. Private burial at a later date.
