It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James R. Casada, a compassionate pillar of our community, on January 4, 2024. Born on November 10, 1943, in Bedford, Indiana, James lived a loving and ambitious life, filled with laughter and an unwavering dedication to his faith and family. His strong-willed nature and his determination were the forces that propelled him throughout his life. Known for his humorous nicknames, he had a knack for making people smile, becoming a beacon of joy in the lives of those around him. As C.S. Lewis once said, "The door on which we have been knocking all our lives will open at last," and for James, that door has opened into eternal peace.
James spent most of his professional life at General Motors, where he contributed to the production line before retiring in 2001. His retirement years were spent in Hartford City, Indiana, where he indulged in his favorite hobbies - deer hunting, fishing, and going on special walks with his dog. He also enjoyed watching cowboy movies, a testament to his fun-loving nature. James was a man of profound faith, once quoting, "Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark," and truly, his faith was his guiding light.
James is survived by his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Paulette Sue (White) Casada, his children Alisa (Matt) Barnard and Jim (Olga) Casada, his grandchildren James Buck, Bailey Casada, Chandler Teal, and Stormy Haire, and his sister Twylia (Kenny) Miller. He also leaves behind several extended family members including his special in laws, the White family, who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents Orval and Lola Casada, his brothers Ronnie, Marshall, and Gary Casada, and his beloved canine companion, Cleo.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 am EST at Wilson-Shook Funeral Homes and Cremation Center (Dunkirk Memorial Chapel) located at 317 North Main Street, Dunkirk, Indiana, 47336. A celebration of James' life will follow at 1:00 pm EST. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of James to the memorial page at www.wilsonshookfh.com. Your stories and pictures will help us all remember the funny, compassionate, and ambitious man who meant so much to us. May his soul rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and warmth of the family he cherished, in the embrace of the faith he followed.
