(Lawrence) Reed Edwards, 81, walked through heaven’s gate on Friday morning, September 16, 2022, after extended illness. Reed was born in Modoc, Indiana on June 8, 1941, to Guy L. Edwards, Sr. and Flava (Jordan) Edwards and graduated from Union High School in 1959.
On March 11, 1966, he married fellow Warner Gear employee Pamela J. Miller, the redhead who caught his eye by spilling her hot chocolate in the cutest way possible. They made their first home in Yorktown where they brought home three children. Reed served 6 years in the Army Reserve and was employed as a machine designer, starting his career on the drafting board and finishing it on the computer. Through his career he worked for Ball Corporation, Rapid Design, and Delphi, most notably.
Aside from excelling as a devoted husband and loving father, Reed was a talented guitarist. He played guitar every Saturday night through the 70s and 80s with his band Sounds Unlimited. In more recent years he played with George Street Connection. He had a great appreciation for musicians who could craft a unique style, and he loved and babied the guitars in his collection.
Reed was a kind, gentle, and soft-spoken man adored by those who knew him well. He could also be called a designer, a builder, a woodworker, and a botcher of jokes. He had a creative mind and a playful spirit. He loved hitting fly balls to his kids and following high school basketball. He loved to laugh at the funny blunders he would make when he momentarily--to use his words--“densed out,” and he took delight in his many famous grammar gaffs. He was a humorous man, but his funniest lines were chiefly unintentional, so when he got a big laugh, he was as surprised as the next guy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Guy L (Hank) Edwards, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Pam, brother Noel (Sarah) Edwards of Richmond, KY, son Chris (Nicky) Edwards of McCordsville, daughter Kelly (Jim) Isenbarger of Elkhart, and Jeremy (Gina) Edwards of Granger. He is also survived by grandchildren Ruby (Zach) Smith, Kayla (Derek) Smith, Brooks Isenbarger, Jackson Edwards, Ally Isenbarger, Dallas Edwards, Stephanie Lucke, Taelor Carmine and several adored nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 5 PM on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Farmland Friends Church west of Farmland. Friends and family may call starting at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Reed to ARF of Muncie, Winchester Animal Shelter, or Farmland Friends Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wilsonshookfh.com.
