Michael J Bishop

Michael J. Bishop of Dunkirk, IN, formerly of Madison Township, passed away at his home, Friday, August 14, 2020. Born on July 22, 1939 in Dunkirk, he was the son of Clyde and Maxine (Overmyer) Bishop. Mike was a 1957 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ball State Teacher’s College and, after working in Research & Development at Ball Corporation, taught Middle and High School Math and Science for twenty five years. Mike was an inquisitive person who enjoyed genealogy, collecting rare books, spending time in his woods, gardening, traveling and vacations, renovating Victorian homes, antiquing, farming, and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Patte, five children, Mike, Shelley, Lisa, and Matt Bishop, all of Dunkirk and Lindsey Bishop of Louisville, KY, three sisters, Nancy Miller, Carolyn (Michael) Turner, and Sandra (Richard) Buckner all of Dunkirk, 7 grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Brittany, Brooke, Zach, Noah, and Nathan, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 11-1 at Wilson Shook Funeral & Cremation Center, Dunkirk Memorial Chapel, Dunkirk, Indiana, with burial following at Dunkirk IOOF Cemetery, Dunkirk, Indiana.
