Phillip Stephen Tunnell, died at his home Tuesday evening, May 25, 2021 at the age of 46. He graduated from Wapahani High School in 1992. He attended the Aviation Maintenance Technical Institute in Indianapolis. He was an excellent roofer for most of his working years. Most recently he was working at Henman Manufacturing and Progress Rail.
He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Ardonna; a son, Justus; a daughter, Jessica; two step-sons, Brandon Johnson and Dustin (Minda) Johnson; his mother, Sharon Tunnell of Selma; two brothers, Andrew Tunnell of Selma and Scott (Janet) Tunnell of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Ruben Tunnell, , CHC, U.S. Navy (1987); maternal grandparents, James “Jay” and Genevieve (Jenny) Buffin; paternal grandparents, Harry Tunnell and Agnes Phillips; great grandparents, Byron and Lottie Wingate, and Jessie and Effie Buffin; uncle Gary Wayne Buffin; Uncle, Cpl. Jay Buffin, USMC died in Vietnam; cousin, Gary Jay Buffin; uncle Jack Tunnell; uncle and aunt, Jerry and Mary Stevens; and the mother of his children, Mellissa Starrett.
A service to celebrate Phillip’s life will be 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Selma Christ United Methodist Church 9805 Jackson St., Selma, IN, with Rev. Dennis Rush officiating. Cremation will follow. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4:00 p.m. to service time on Tuesday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, Phillips wishes were that donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS, 66675-8516 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
