Rocky Dean Mikel, following a long-fought battle with cancer, succumbed to his illness on November 24th, 2021.
Rocky was born in Muncie, Indiana and lived much of his life in Randolph
County. He graduated with honors from Winchester Community High School in 1973; he was an active member of the Track and Field team and played trumpet in the marching and concert bands. Following high school, he carried on his avid love of music, being chosen as a member of “The Green Machine” - The Cavaliers DCI award-winning Drum and Bugle Corp.
Rocky had a long career in Machining and Computer Numerical Control Programming. He began his career at Maul Brothers and Glass Equipment Engineering in Winchester, IN. He moved to Indianapolis and worked for 16 years at Major Tool and Machine, INC. He later relocated to Lafayette, IN where he worked as Senior Tooling Engineer at Fairfield Manufacturing until his retirement in 2017. Rocky was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Katrina Gaddis Mikel and Raymond A. Mikel. He is survived by his daughter, Kirsti Humburg and his son-in-law and friend, Greg Humburg, of Westfield, IN. He is also survived by his four siblings: Belinda Mikel of Austin, TX, Bertina Sleppy (husband, Joe) of LaPorte, IN, Randy Mikel (wife, Patty) of Ft. Wayne, IN and Robert Mikel (significant ther, Linda) of Niles, MI. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Rocky’s life will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery of Maxville, IN. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Wenesday, at the funeral home.
