Russell Lee Calhoun, 84, of Parker City, IN passed away Saturday evening, April 16, 2022, at his residence, with his family by his side. He was born August 20, 1937, in Muncie, IN, the son of Howard and Mary (Russell) Calhoun. He was a 1955 graduate of Parker High School. He honorably served in the US Navy. He was a member of the Navy’s Blue Jacket Choir, singing to dedicate O’Hare Airfield of Chicago, IL and the United Nations Building of New York City, NY.
Russell, a lifelong farmer, also had worked in implement sales, selling agricultural equipment in Greenville, OH, Winchester and Muncie, IN. He was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church of Winchester, IN, and worked with the Friends Disaster Service for many years. He was a member of the Friendly Rural Couples and Randolph County Antique Tractor Club. He enjoyed talking about, playing on and working on tractors. He would often show them at local fairs. He loved his wife and children, but adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 62 years, Sue; a son, Kris (wife, Chris) of Waukesha, WI; four daughters, Debi Terrell (husband, Tim) of Angola, IN, Patti Sebanc (husband, Dan) of Indianapolis, IN, Judi Calhoun (Rob Sitzes) of Muncie, IN, and Jill King (husband, Scott) of Brownsburg, IN; a brother, Pete Calhoun (wife, Rachel) of Farmland, IN; two sisters, Carol Gastineau of Farmland, IN, and Dolly Sprague (husband, Vern) of Sequim, WA; 12 grandchildren, Greg Calhoun (wife, Danielle), Matt Calhoun, Becky Calhoun (fiance’ Brad Sternig), Megan Cooper (husband, Kyle), Zach Terrell (wife, Kirsten), Abby Myers (husband, Jake), D.J. Sebanc, Erin Sebanc-Johnson, Patrick Sebanc, Nick Sebanc, Aimee Cota (husband, Chase), and Samantha King; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Jessie Calhoun.
A service to celebrate his life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, at Bear Creek Friends Church, 4038 W. 500 N., Winchester, IN 47394, with Pastor Zachary Kennedy and Pastor Tim Terrell officiating. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21st, at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN.
