It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stella M. Phenis, a dedicated and compassionate servant of God, on September 27, 2023. Born on September 23, 1951, in Richmond, Indiana, Stella was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her charismatic and generous spirit will be remembered by the many lives she touched in her 72 years.
Stella was a faithful member of the Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Winchester, Indiana. She served with passion and dedication as a Sunday School Teacher for over 30 years, taught Vacation Bible School, and assisted the Rubies Group Ministry. Stella's love for God was evident in her service; she believed in the words of the Bible: "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:17).
She wanted her family and friends to join her in church as often as possible and requested that her funeral services be a time of praise and worship.
Stella was married to Roscoe Phenis on November 13, 1972. She lovingly raised his seven children as her own and they had one child together. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her husband, Roscoe, her children, Rocky (Katie) Phenis, Judy (Richard) Swann, Roscoe Phenis, Rufus (Shelia) Phenis, Russell (Melissa) Phenis, Rodney Phenis and Samuel Phenis. Stella would like to recognize her daughter-in-law, Karen Phenis, for providing her care in the last stage of her life. Stella was very grateful for their relationship. Stella was the proud grandmother to several; and great/great/ grandmother to a multitude, respectively. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Stella Estes, daughters Janet and Jenny Phenis, and grandsons Bobby and Mason.
A visitation service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 12:00pm EDT at the Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church, 460 Elm Street, Winchester, Indiana, 47394. A celebration of Stella's life will follow at 2:00pm EDT at the same venue. Graveside services will be private. Stella's life was a testament to her love for God and her family. She will be remembered as a dedicated, compassionate, generous, and charismatic woman. As we mourn her loss, let us also celebrate the abundant life she lived. We encourage family, friends, and others whose lives Stella touched to share memories and upload photos on her memorial page at www.wilsonshookfh.com. Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thomas Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
