Thomas (Tom) Elliott Howell was born on Friday, June 13th, 1941 and passed away on the morning of September 10th, 2022, at the age of 81. While he had battled cancer for eighteen years, he passed away from other health complications. He had worked at Goodyear Tire, Westinghouse and retired from Warner Gear. He had a great love of the outdoors and nature including canoeing, camping, fishing, gardening, hiking, birdwatching, reading, music, map-collecting and driving down unknown roads. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Leander Howell, in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-three years, Connie Sue (Oren) Howell, and five children: Anthony (Tony) Elliot Howell, wife Deanna; Dawn Leann Howell; Lora Linn (Howell) McCord, husband Harold; Todd Edwin Howell, wife Pamela; and Melinda Sue Howell, husband Brian Catlett. Other survivors include his mother, Nina (Mitchell) Howell; a brother, Stephen Leander Howell, wife Debi; brother-in-law, Rodney Oren, wife Carolyn; brother-in-law Phil Puckett, wife Janet; sister-in-law, Janet Puckett; and lap-warmer, Barney Bear. He is also remembered by eleven grandchildren–Jeremy, Owen, Chris, Daniel, Sydney, Frank, Mariah, Samantha, Shawn, Carrie, and Miranda, along with twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. His nieces and nephews include Melissa Buis, Krista Ridge, Ron Oren, Ryan Oren, Seth Howell and Anna Howell, along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022, at Wilson Shook Funeral Home, Thornburg Memorial Chapel of Parker City, IN, with Pastor, Debbie Howell. Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 15th, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, where he worked as a groundskeeper for several years as a young man.
