Virginia McCormick Obituary

With heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life of Iris Virginia McCormick, known to loved ones as Virginia, who was born on November 24, 1924, in Winchester, Indiana. Virginia charmed the world with her wit and spirit for 99 years before her passing on December 9, 2023. A long-time resident of Randolph County, she spent her last year at Muncie Estates in Muncie, Indiana, where she continued to bring joy and warmth to her family and friends.

Virginia was a spirited woman, known for her vivacious personality and her thoughtful nature. Her generosity knew no bounds, particularly when it came to her family and animals, both of which were closest to her heart. Virginia's feisty spirit was well matched by her love for swimming and her membership in Ad-A-Link, a group of girls from her high school who would meet monthly for food, cards, and Yahtzee. She was also a past member of the Modoc United Methodist Church and UM Women.

Virginia's home was a sanctuary of warmth and love, complete with a candy bar drawer in her refrigerator, a testament to her generous nature. She is survived by her loving children Barbara Keesling, Connie (Steve) Robb, Alan (Traci) McCormick, and Larry (Phyllis)McCormick. Virginia's legacy also lives on in her grandchildren Carrie Roth, Brad (Lisa) Keesling, Kim Keesling, Jason McCormick, Meredith (Justin)Taylor, Melanie Robb, Lindsey (Nic) Staton, Meghan (Tom) Means, Mallory (Josh) Kuiper. Virginia was also blessed to have 14 great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Sprinkle and Joan DeWitt. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Alice Gordon, her devoted husband John McCormick, her brother Jimmy Gordon, and her son-in-law Donnie Keesling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buena Vista Cemetery Restoration Fund c/o Steve Cox, 4696 W 400 S, Winchester, IN 47394 and/or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "It is not length of life, but depth of life." Virginia lived a life full of depth, characterized by her love for her family, her passion for her hobbies, and the joy she brought to those around her. A memorial gathering in honor of Virginia will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on December 30, 2023, at Buena Vista Church, 5434 County Rd 300 S. Farmland, IN 47340. A private memorial service will be celebrated by the family. The family would like to express a special thank you to Muncie Estates and her caregiver, Bonnie, for the excellent care they gave to Virginia.

We encourage all who knew Virginia to share their memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page at www.wilsonshookfh.com, to keep her spirit alive and celebrate the remarkable life she led.
