Obituary

After living a full and active life, Wayne E. McGuire, 97, of Parker City, IN, passed away early Sunday morning, November 6, 2022. He was born on May 31, 1925, near Maxville, IN, to Rosina (Bolinger) and Neal McGuire.

Wayne was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School. He honorably served during WWII in the US Navy Air Corps, aboard the USS Barnes from 1943 to 1946.

He was a self-employed farmer in Stoney Creek Township for 55 years. He married the love of his life, Martha Lou (Gable) McGuire in 1947. Together, they farmed and raised two children, Tim Edwin and Jane Anne, before Martha preceded him in death.

He later married Jahma Joyce (Burton) McGuire. They enjoyed time with her family and winters in Florida before she preceded him in death.

Being active in farming and raising livestock, he was awarded Outstanding Swine Producer in 1972 by the Randolph County Achievement Banquet Committee. He was one of the first farmers in Randolph County to have a harvest store for feeding high moisture corn to livestock.

He was a member of the Parker City United Methodist Church; a forty plus year member of the Parker City and Winchester Lions Clubs, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Lions International Award. Wayne made two ambulance eyeglass missions to Guatemala. Other memberships include, Parker City Masonic Lodge No. 630 and the Randolph County Antique Tractor Club.

Wayne was an avid race car fan, formerly owning a sprint car driven by John Wolfe. He also volunteered as a yellow shirt at the Indianapolis 500. Wayne and his good friend Wayne Thompson participated in the Great American Race in 1996, driving a 1928 Model A Speedster across the United States from Tacoma, Washington to Toronto, Canada. He was the owner of several antique tractors which he lovingly restored. They were his pride and joy.

Wayne was often seen at Jerry's for ice cream or the American Legion for lunch with his black lab in the car.

Wayne is survived by his loving daughter, Jane Grove (husband, Damon); grandchildren, Molly McGuire, Anne Taylor (Mark), Karen Lloyd, Ross Grove (Chabree), Reed Grove (Kim), and Rachel Troutman (Jeremy); great grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah and Noah Taylor, Joely and Rileigh Bertram, Eva Lloyd, Addilynn, Callie and Hailey Grove, Weston and Gavin Grove, and Braxton and Beckett Troutman.
